On the eve of the 1st anniversary of the military coup in Myanmar, No Sweat and Global Women’s Strike released an international statement, signed by over 160 organisations from over 20 countries around the world, in support of calls from trade unions in Myanmar for international brands to cease all production and begin a responsible exit from the country.

The military dictatorship has murdered, raped and tortured thousands of women, children and men who have been resisting the coup since February 2021. To launch the campaign Myanmar Military: Never in Fashion, that this statement is part of, we held a webinar that hears from a Burmese trade union leader and an academic on how and why brands are being called on to leave, as well as international supporters backing this call.
